The site of the 2010 Winter Olympics is about a 2 hour drive north of Vancouver. Although there is no skiing in August, you can still take a Gondola ride to the top and walk up to the glacier. Whistler/Blackcomb has become a year-round resort offering golfing, hiking, and tours through out the summer. They have also opened a mountain bike park and converted the chairlifts to accomodate bikes. I have not yet tried this 'adventure' of barrelling down a mountain on a bike.
