Departure Bay is your ferry arrival point for North and West Vancouver Island destinations. The ferry trip from Vancouver is an hour and a half, not including wait time. If you are travelling on to Tofino, which is another 4 hour drive, I'd recommend taking the ferry late afternoon or evening, staying the night in Nanaimo or just up the road, and then taking a leisurely drive to Tofino the following day.
