My fiance and I have always loved vacationing in Hilton Head and now we are thinking of planning our wedding there! The only problem is I'm from Pennsylvania and I do not know the best venues for a beach wedding with a small reception following the ceremony. Do you have any suggestions??

Hi!
I live on the mainland from Hilton Head and we had a beach wedding on the island. We used the Westin Hotel, but all of the beach resorts have wedding packages. Check out the Marriott Beach & Tennis Resort, Hilton Oceanfront, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Oceanfront. It isn't necessary to have the wedding at a resort, but that was the best option for us as most have all-inclusive packages so you don't have to worry about anything! The Westin even did our cake! The only thing I will suggest is that you ask who is getting the beach permit! We thought the hotel was getting it, they thought we were getting it...we got it very last minute. For an officiant, I can't recommend Maureen Cohen of Creative Weddings enough. She was wonderful and really created a beautiful ceremony that was "us". Her website is: http://www.creativeweddingsonhhi.com/. I can't recommend a florist because we weren't 100% happy with ours. I can recommend Jamie's Port-a-Party for the reception. Jamie (and his lovely wife, Liz) really made the party. It's been almost a year and people are STILL telling us how great our reception was!

Congratulations!! Feel free to ask any questions you might have!

Hi,
I agree with tmjmeister about Celebrations Events! They also do not have food and beverage minimums. Another place I would recommend is the Port Royal golf club which also has no minimums.
I'm getting married in about a week so I will have more about the vendors then. Here's my planning bio : http://www.projectwedding.com/biography/list/Sherita

Congrats :)

I am getting married in HH in May and I am not from the area either. From the research I've done Holiday Inn is the most affordable. Palmetto Dunes has an ocean front pavillion called the Dune House and they were the 2nd most reasonable (but I was only looking at ocean front venues). All the major resorts have a $10,000 min for food/drink to have a wedding on a Saturday (I think $5000 for Friday). The Hilton has a great oceanfront pavillion that is cheaper to go through Celebration Events but there is a min. amount of rooms to reserve for 2 nights to have an event there through Celebration. I am renting a house but after the cost of all the rentals it appears to be the same price as going with Palmetto Dunes. If you don rent a house consider using vendors from Charleston or Savannah they are a little cheaper.

How small would your wedding be? My husband and I are out of towners and vacation in HHI, and we were married there last October. We got married on the beach in Sea Pines - we had 30 guests. We did everything ourselves, because for a small wedding the minimums at the resorts are not feasible. Our reception was on the top level of The Wreck of the Salty Dog and the food, prices and atmosphere were wonderful! Best of luck!

Hi,
If any of you brides to be out there are interested in a historical lowcountry plantation venue for your wedding or reception, take a look at Richfield Plantation in Yemassee, SC. Our web site is www.RichfieldEvents.com. My number and email are on the website as well and you can call or email any questions you may have. Look at our photo gallery too. There's lots of photos of the house, recent weddings and receptions.
Thanks!

We were married on the island and it was fabulous. We had our reception at the Westin and I promise there could not have been a better location. My sister used to work at another major hotel on the island as an events coordinator and was amazed at how wonderful they were at the Westin. One thing to note if you have a beach front reception: you MUST shut music down at 10pm. There is a law that regulates this. We had our cocktail hour outside, then brought the dinner and dancing reception inside. This rule goes for the Dune House (which we also looked at), as well. Make sure you keep this in mind while you're looking at places and planning your wedding. AND, just as a side warning...stay away from Hilton Head Entertainment. Big time problems that can be avoided by going ANYWHERE else.

Good luck!
