I am trying to plan a 2012 wedding in Charleston from Maryland and need some help! I need any suggestions or warnings on just about all vendors in the area. I know I dont want your basic hotel or reception hall wedding but other than that I'm open to any and all ideas! Thank you!
Hi Sarah, I'd love to give you more information on vendors, etc. I'm also a wedding photographer in Charleston that works with a lot of destination brides (a few are from Maryland). Check out my site if you want to see my portfolio and fill out the contact form with your info and I'll email you my prices and packages. Thanks!
The best advice that I can give you is to chat with a great wedding planner; and if you can, HIRE ONE! I cannot stress enough how much of a burden this alone will take off of you. I am in the wedding industry (a photographer as well) and I have seen the weight of stress when the bride and her family and friends try to take on everything. Like I said, even if you cannot hire an consultant, at least see if you can chat on the phone for 15 minutes or so. You may be surprised at what can be accomplished through such a small task, and in so little time.
Here are three planners that I currently recommend...
Hi Sarah, My name is Laura, my husband and I own AkiPhotography. We're out of Charlotte, however we have family that lives in Charleston. Would be happy to email you some information. We have obtained some good information from the people we've worked with, on Charleston locations. Message me thru our site www.AkiPhotography.com, what sort of budget for venue, foods and such. What you envision your wedding looking like and I'll send you some things back. Also, we do photography in Charleston if you should need. All the best, Laura
They are a new wedding coordinator group, all young and with fresh ideas!! They're very knowledgable about the city and vendors, they have been working in the food & beverage industry for about 10 years and have GREAT contacts!! Their prices are very reasonable and they are willing to put together differently priced packages for you!
I had my wedding in July25, 2009 and depending what you are looking for and what is your budget, I highly recomand Rivertowne COuntry CLub in M pleasant. We had out ceremony outside and the reception inside. Lacy is very knowladgeble, sweet lady who made sure that my day is perfect. We did no have a big budget but she pulled out and extraordinry day for us. Our guest enjoyed the wedding, the palce is beautiful, the food is delicios, but most of all the people over there are amazing. Here is their website, and they have tree locations so, you can choose what is more fitted to you. http://www.rivertownecountryclub.com/sites/courses/layout9.asp?page=46306

Sarah My wife and I got married in Charleston two years ago and did all of the planning from Colorado (living in MD now, ironically). I'd be happy to provide some suggestions if you want. Feel free to email me at email@example.com.
Hi Sarah, I planned my wedding from Arizona this summer for our wedding in Nov. We had a tight budget so we got married on Folly Beach and then had a reception at 77 Wentworth which is a restaurant/bar in Old Town. The place barely needs decorating so you don't have to worry to much about the tables etc. But we wanted a laid back wedding so... Also look at The Old Rice Mill. Catherine there is amazing!!! She did our catering everyone is still raving about the food. Hope this helps~ Kelly
My husband and I were married in Charleston in June, 2009 on a Sunday and I planned the entire thing myself from Ohio. We chose Sunday because our venue gave a nice discount for Sunday events. We chose the Wickliffe House for our venue for the ceremony and reception...and everything was absolutely amazing! The food was catered by their in-house company Mediterra Catering. They did an amazing job and my guests still rave to me about how much they enjoyed everything.
I had a friend (professional photographer) take the pictures for me, and had help from family for centerpieces. I got my bouquets and boutonnieres from Top Creations Florist (about 20 miles outside of Charleston) and she did a great job for a very reasonable price. She even delivered for free. Our budget was about $11,000 and we were able to do all of this within our budget (100 guests)and everything was very elegant (this budget includes ALL of our wedding expenses).
