My fiance and I are looking for a church for our ceremony in downtown Charleston. We arent positive what denomination yet since I am Catholic and he is non-denominational Christian. Also we are planning this from Maryland so any input would be great! Thanks :-) Sarah
Sarah, you should check out St. Luke's Chapel (non-denominational) on Ashley Avenue, downtown Charleston. I've officiated several weddings there. Only an ordained minister can officiate in the chapel as opposed to a SC notary. Feel free to contact me for any further assistance. Happy New Year! Dr. Clarke, www.lowcountryweddingminister.com
There are so many beautiful churches!!! I had the hardest time choosing! You will find that some of the largest and most famous will not allow you to get married there if you are not a member or a member of the denomination (St. Philip's, St. Michaels, St. Matthews, First Scots Pres are a few off the top of my head that are strict). St. Luke's is probably the least expensive but it's smaller than some of the others. I'm partial to the French Huguenot because it's so different and that's where I got married but I would encourage you to also look at the Unitarian Church, Grace Episcopal, First Baptist, Cathedral of St John...Once you start looking you'll realize they're all beautiful. Really comes down to the size of your guest list and personal preference. Also, your guests will appreciate it if you choose a church and reception site that are close in proximity. Just something to think about. Good luck!
My wedding ceremony was at St. Mary Catholic Church. It is a beautiful, very historic church perfect for weddings if you decide to have a Catholic ceremony. There are a ton of great options in Charleston.
Hey! My fiance and I are getting married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church which is 15 minutes from downtown. We are also from out of state planning our wedding. The church faculty and priest have been a great help from a far and it's reasonably priced too. Good luck!
