Does anyone know of a Catholic priest that will do an outdoor wedding? Apparently the Diocese of Scranton doesn't allow it but from what I hear you just need to ask around. Any help would be great, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm a rabbi and occasionally perform inter-faith weddings in the Scranton area. No priest in good standing with the Roman Catholic church is allowed by Rome to perform the ceremony you request. There are alternatives - without having a rabbi perform your service! Please contact me, I'll try to help. Congratulations and Mazel Tov!

I'm sorry that it has become even more difficult to marry with benefit of clergy. If you only are interested in a Roman Catholic priest in good standing with his diocese, it may be impossible. There are other catholic priests available for both inter-faith and non-denominational weddings. If I can assist you, please let me know. Shalom Rabbi G

Hello
I am currently in what seems like the biggest fight of my life. My fiance and I are trying to plan a wedding and family seems to be getting in the way. I am Jewish and he is catholic. My mother has agreed to have the wedding performed by a rabbi and have a priest present to bless the marriage. His mother feels it should be 50/50 right down the middle. We are getting so frustrated that we have even talked about eloping, something that neither of us want. I am 29 and he is 33 and we feel like little children who have no say in anything. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
frustrated bride

I unfortunately, have not had any luck in finding a Catholic priest that will do an outdoor wedding. I understand your frustration, and would just be honest with your families about how much its all bothering you. What you described seems pretty fair to me. Hang in there. Write back if you'd like.

The National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB) are the ones that will not allow the celebration of Catholic Sacraments (excluding baptism) out side the church walls. The relational is that the sacraments are community activities and should be celebrated in the presence of the church community (read in the church).

A great alternative would be to find a non-denominational minister who received his training from the Catholic church (there are a lot of us out there) to celebrate your wedding at the location of your choosing then to have your local priest bless your marriage after the wedding celebration.
