Great seeing all of us ladies on here! Question, we're getting married in Cartagena on July 10th, 2009 and are needing a possible ceremony or reception site. We've rented out Casa Pombo entirely to use for one of the events, likely for the ceremony. But we're still wanting an impressive, outside reception venue and had thought of the clock tower. Our only concern is privacy and safety. We want to make sure there aren't tons of vendors approaching our guests or looming around empty dinner tables that may have cameras lying about. We of course will advise guests to watch their belongings but I know people will want to get up and dance without holding all their stuff. What have you learned about this reception idea in terms of those concerns? Where do you set up the dinner tables and dancing? Is it on the wall or on the ground below the clock? Do you have security to ensure only guests are allowed in? How much is it to rent? Can you have a live band? Dancers?
So happy you've found your "magical" spot! I'd love to hear more ; ) Karen [email protected]
My hubby and I were married in Cartagena this year, May 24, 2009 :) IT was absolutely incredible, a dream came true... and all thanks to our wedding planner whom I actually put in contact with some of the couples that have posted here :) I see she's helped a few of you! SHe is amazing! ANd I want to do my wedding all over again, and again, and again, in Cartagena :) All my photos and information can be found on our website www.erikandcaro.com
Hi ladies, I'm new to this site, and we're also planning our wedding in Cartagena for the end of this year -it's great to finally find somewhere on the internet with information!! Our main issue right now seems to be budget - the prices we are getting quoted seem kind of outrageous for Colombia. I noticed a variety of budgets on this site, would anyone mind posting general info on their budgets for 1. food, 2. liguor 3. flowers? I noticed the post for $1000 for 100 people for liquor, how did you get this price? They are quoting us $3000 and claiming we cannot use outside vendors. We don't mind mixing national brands with American brands (actually we thought it'd be nice to have COLOMBIAN brands). Same deal for the food, they keep trying to send us latin fusion and nouveau cuisine when our whole point of doing it in Cartagena is to have everything Colombian. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!
We have been working with our wedding planner for most of this stuff and she has been very good about working within our budget and finding a better deal when we are not satisfied. This is super important for us because my fiancé and I are pretty young and we are going back to grad school next year but we still have about 80 guests. With the alcohol we are most likely buying it ourselves but will have bartenders as part of our catering service. This has not been a problem for us. I just got a quote for all the decorations, flowers, table sets etc and it looks like it will be around 1000 for everything. I am going down in April to check everything out so we will see. Also it is important to remember that Cartagena is not as cheap as other Latin American cities and that was a surprise to us as well. We have found some pretty creative solutions for our wedding with areas that were over our budget. And even though are wedding planner is great I have done a lot of research on my own and than have had her follow up with vendors. Hopefully this helps!!

Hey guys, good to see other people getting married in Cartagena. I am originally form there but I live in CA now, so the planning has been a little hard. I traveled there in January and went to see everyone so if you need any help let me know and I can give you some numbers.
Cartagena has become quite expensive as far as weddings go because it has become such a celebrity wedding spot. (and with reason, its the most beautiful city in the world :)
The hotels, air tickets and wedding stuff are a bit pricey, for latin American standards, but services, food etc is cheap. Massages are 15 for an hour or so. Regardless, it is still cheaper than having a wedding in the US. You can have more people for the same amounts, better food, better service and a hell of a better time.
Some of my vendors are:
I hired Cecilia Otero as a wedding coordinator for the day of. Shes young but has plenty experience. Her number is CECY OTERO- 320-5435297. She charged me less since it was just for the day of.
For decoration I hired Jairo, hes office is uuugly but he does awesome decoration and has the best prices. His number is 310-3568300 or 6648714 locally. You can also try William Baena, which is the absolute best, but he charges accordingly. His number is 6653989
For the cake I hired Elsy de Figueroa. I am not doing the normal cake, but mini shots and so. Her number is (57) (5) 6604486 You can also try ELIZABETH DIAZGRANADOS- POSTRES- 315-3631917 and Rosita Benedetti (yumm) 6651653
mh I have more but Im getting bored lol. Email me directly. Post pics of your weddings!!
Hello Everyone I am trying to get some rough prices for the flowers (church and reception), how much did you guys spend? they quoted me USD 5000, but the reception is usd 3500 (for 100 people) so I am a bit suspicious that the flowers are more expensive than the venue and food. Not sure if this is normal prices for flowers in cartagena?? thank you

That's absurd. Who gave you that quote?? The most I got charged was USD $2500 and that was with all the toys. I have 200 people. Check to see what they are putting on there. Its possible there are some stupid charges like lighting, furniture and other things that make it more expensive. Look at the itemized quote. And if not, go with someone else. William Baena is great, Jairo is great and inexpensive, floristeria Martha Luz as well. She has a facebook page where you can see pics. Let her know I sent you and she might give you a good price. Mercy
For flowers and decoration I hired Andres Cortes. He did an AMAZING job, I loved it!!!
I had 150 people. He charged about USD 2,000 for the chuch's decoration and for the reception's decoration (including chivary chairs, linen table covers and napkins, big arrangements for the entrance, lamps for the trees and of course table arrangements) about USD 3000.
I have to say I tried first with William Baena, who is supposedly "the best in town". Well I was disappointed. He treated us like we were not special (maybe so for him, but for us its our only wedding!) When I told him I had seen a centerpiece that had a big candle with some flowers attached to it, he told me that he had actually done that arrangement, but that the candles were hard to find, so if I found them, he would do the centerpiece (wtf...). I never replied to him about that (which had happened about 6 months before the wedding). Guess what, the WEEK BEFORE he calls up and wants to "confirm" he will do the decoration! by then I was more than happy I had hired Andres!
Plus, Baena was more expensive than Andres... Andres truly made an effort: he even made the centerpiece as I had described it and took pictures of it months before, just to make sure that was what I wanted.
Hope this sheds some light about these two flower & decoration vendors in Cartagena!
Hi Karen I am also considering renting out casa pombo for everyone to stay and also I could hold the reception here? Did they give you any special price for renting the entire house? I need to stay for 4 days. How big is the events room, does it have air conditioning? thanks for your comments Maria
