Elsa and Michael 's Wedding

Message to the guests: Gastown was established in 1867 and is one of the oldest sections of Vancouver-young by other Canadian cities. It offers restaurants (The Steamworks at Cordova & Water is a good bet and our fav is Guu Otokomae at Richards and Water) and shopping from the tacky tourist variety to First Nations art galleries and local fashion designers. The city of vancouver outlines a walking tour of Gastown at http://vancouver.ca/commsvcs/planning/heritage/walks/index.htm Please also see notes about the Downtown East Side if you are planning to visit this area.

A strange combo of tourist kitsch, cobblestone streets, Japanese kids and high end designer furniture. Go figure.

This part of downtown got its name from saloon owner 'Gassy Jack' Deighton, who was a rather chatty fellow. In case anyone doubts the true root of the area's title, there is a large statue of this historical figure on Water Street. Cobblestone streets and original architecture, shops, restaurants and bars fill the area. Popular Historic Walking Tours are given free every day from mid-June to the end of August. Highlights include The Landing.
