Question:

What do the guests wear to a Nov 28th wedding in Caracas Ven.?

Answer:

Dress code for weddings always has more to do with the formality and the setting, and the time of day for your wedding, than anything else. Do you have your invitations out already? What's the style and formality of them? If not, you can easily enclose an insert, letting guests know what the dress code is -- since they will want to know as well.

Your note can say something like this: "Dress code is outdoor semi-formal. Since it will be hot outside, we encourage men to leave the jackets at home, and for ladies to wear a sundress for your comfort. And please leave the stilettos at home, since we will be in a lovely garden with a grassy surface."

This message can also be on your personal wedding website, which you can e-mail to all of your guests a few weeks before the wedding.

It's become a new etiquette rule to help guests understand the appropriate/suggested dress code, since they want to be well-dressed, not under-dressed, and in keeping with the style of the event.
