Anyone have suggestions for a duo or trio to play some classical music for ceremony and cocktail hour for a reasonable price -- around or under $500? I'd ideally like strings (violin, cello), but am open to acoustic guitar as well. Thanks!

Hi KBrad. I suggest you take a look at Charleston Virtuosi. I know them personally and they are not only good musicians, but also good people who love what they do: http://www.charlestonvirtuosi.com/.

Hi, we used Julie Diamond Trio or Julie Diamond Ensembles for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour at the Legare Waring House on October 23, 2010. Julie was great - easy to work with, lovely music (strings), and reasonably priced! We were planning on just using them for our ceremony, but we loved the music and price, so we used them for our cocktail hour, too, instead of having our wedding band play acoustics for the cocktail hour. I suggest you look in to them! Good luck!

Check out this guy. We hired him within your price range to play during cocktail hour on the patio. Since we were married outdoors at a local plantation he also played music as guests were being seated and the songs we selected for marching up the aisle and exiting. Tiny bit of a language barrier but he did a wonderful job and while we selected a handful of songs we allowed him to select the remainder and were extremely pleased. I'd chosen the theme song from Princess Bride for the wedding march and he didn't know it but learned it for the occasion. He arrived promptly, quickly set up and discreetly left following his session. We did provide money for our wedding planner to tip him, but it was nominal. http://nikolaisvishev.com/

We used the Carolina Trio that has a flute, violin and cello for our ceremony music. I can't remember the exact price but I know it was under $500. They were amazing and sounded beautiful. They have a website, www.charlestonflutist.com which is actually the flutist's website but it shows all the different trio and duo options. Regina's contact information is regina@charlestonflutist.com or 843-860-2037.

We used palmetto strings. Contact was Lauren. Very professional and easy to work with. We decided on each of songs and went with a mix of contemporary and traditional stuff. Price was reasonable at $450 so with in your budget. We had a string trio and they played for 30 min before ceremony and then during for a total of an hour.
