Hello everyone! I'm looking for a lovely outdoor location to have the ceremony and reception all at the same place, but we're not interested in beaches and are trying to veer away from plantations. I'd love to have a little bit of a "country" or "rustic" feel, but not too far of a drive outside Charleston. Any great ideas?!

Thanks in advance!

We had our ceremony in a garden at the Confederate Home at 62 Broad Street right in the heart of downtown Charleston. The property is beautiful and the rental fees are tax deductible because the property is run by a non-profit organization. You can also have the ceremony and/or reception in one of their multiple indoor rooms which are also beautiful and historic. The rates are really reasonable for the Charleston area, but you do have to bring in everything. Working with someone who has put on events there in the past is a must because it is an unconventional location. It is best for weddings under 100 guests, and around 80 would probably be most comfortable at the high end. It might be worth checking out. Good luck!

I had my wedding at the Colonial Dorchester State Park. It is a 45 minute drive from downtown Charleston, but don't rule it out just for that. This land was the site of a Revolutionary War settlement that was abandoned after the War. There is an old brick tower from the now-burned church. It is wonderfully quiet and rustic, and only costs the park admission of $2 per guest. I ordered simple plantation benches for seating (they only allow 30), had 2 large/tall arrangements up front by the belltower, and a table with sweet tea, lemonade, apples and nuts just to give people an option for "a little something" while they waited. Everyone commented on how "magical" the place felt, and my pictures turned out incredible. I had my reception downtown, but there is a wonderful restaurant nearby called Elaine's that might be able to do something for you also. We took a chance with the weather, there is no indoor alternative, so my reception site would have become the wedding site in the event of a torrential downpour. Good luck!

Check out the Carriage House at the Magnolia Plantation. It's NOT the plantation but instead a rustic "barn" with a wide lawn overlooking the river. There is a small house for the bridal party to get ready. Price was reasonable compared to larger plantation venues, especially if you have some flexibility in your date. You can get married inside or out depending upon your preference and number of guests and there is a patio where you set up for drinks.

I like the Confederate House too, lovely yard and close to some great sites to take photos. I've heard they've made some upgrades to the rooms upstairs, but haven't seen them yet. If your going down, probably should be a location you check. Best wishes, and if you don't have a photographer yet, keep us in mind. :-)

I am having my wedding at "The Island House" on Johns Island. Its an older home located on the Stono River. It has a zinnia field that blooms near your ceremony, plenty of trees, plus a rustic barn and fields to for pics. It also has an amazing view of the river and its the perfect place for a dual ceremony/reception venue. Good luck!

Wow, thanks everyone for all the great suggestions! I will definitely look into these places. I'm at the very beginning of wedding planning, so many of these location names are new to me. The Colonial Dorchester State Park sounds really intriguing.

Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming!

I highly recommend the Daniel Island club! Just a quick 15 minutes from downtown and ceremony and reception all at one place is super convenient. It is a nice country club with a pretty outdoor view for the ceremony. The staff is very helpful and food was excellent!
