My fiance and I have just begun wedding planning for San Juan, PR. We have had a few issues with hotels returning our calls and emails about pricing and other questions we have. We are currently looking into getting married at the Conrad Plaza or Hilton El Caribe. Has anybody had their ceremony at either of these places? Also, did anybody get their marriage license in their home state prior to getting married in Puerto Rico?

Thank you so much in advance :)

I have done weddings at both. What specifics are you looking for? Have you consider La Concha, El San Juan and the Ritz Carlton?

The Caribe Hilton has a small bluff overlooking the ocean. It is separated from the pool area so people will be distant from your ceremony. The reception rooms are your basic standard hotel ballrooms.

The Conrad (which is own by the Hilton) has a long grassy area along the ocean area, It has a nice ballroom next to the grassy area.

What is nice about both is that the ceremony area is separated from the public areas so you wont get people traffic bothering your ceremony.

Whenever you talk to any venue make sure to ask for plan B in case of rain. Our island is in the tropic and weather can be unpredictable at times. For example, I had a wedding today and when I check the weather there as a 90% chance of rain. Guess what, it did not rain all day.

If you have any specific question feel free to email me at david @davidmedina.com and I will be happy to help you as much as I can.

I was married in january at the ritz-carlton. I can tell you that getting responses and information is challenging from almost everyone -- they are truly on island time and there is just a different mindset. Be prepares for that and honestly, add time into your schedule for this, as things will just not come together as quickly as you would like.

As for the marriage license, you must obtain your marriage license in the state you are getting married. You cannot bring one from your home state.

I forgot about the wedding license question. Ashlee is correct. The easiest way is to do a civil ceremony in your state and just do a religious or symbolic ceremony in Puerto Rico.

Another option is to really get married in Puerto Rico. The process has become some what simpler than it use to be (and it is for local). You can download the instructions here: http://www.davidmedinaphotography.com/downloads/Puerto-Rico-Marriage-Requirement.pdf This is the official document from the PR health department.

Hello

I agree with ashlee g things will not come together as quickly as you hope. Response time varies, however in those early days I would send and email and if I did not hear anything within a day or two I would call and find the person who I should talk to and leave them a voicemail because I wanted to plan everything quickly. It will come together and many hotels will work with you on price :)
