Hi All!
We are planning a Feb. 2013 wedding in Old San Juan. The front runner for our reception right now is El Convento, but we're trying to iron out where to do the ceremony. My fiance is Catholic and I'm non-denominational Christian. He wants to get married at El Catedral, but since I'm not Catholic, I don't even know if that's a possibility. I haven't been able to find any answers online. We're planning a quick trip there next month to look at venues, etc., but I was hoping to figure this out before then so I can plan to look at other ceremony venues if it's not an option at El Catedral. Thanks for any input!

I looked into the catedral as well so I checked out their website and it said so long as one of you are catholic you may have your ceremony there. You should check it out, it pretty much has all the info you need. It is all in spanish though just in case you don't speak:)

First of all, El Convento is a wonderful place to have your wedding celebration. Is one of my favorite wedding venues. Great service and food. Great place for wonderful and unique photographs.

You can married at the Cathedral but you may have to "convert" to catholic. You can check the requirement in your local catholic church because they will be the same.

It would be easier to have a non denomintional wedding than a catholic. A catholic wedding has to be on a catholic church while a non denominational can be anywhere.

Hope that helps, if there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

Yes, you can get married in the catholic church, just do the homework. La Catedral will provide you with all the requirements... And trust there are many of them. In my case we are both catholics so the documentation was double. I'm also having my reception at El Conveto... They too do very nice denominational ceremonies. Also know that is you are both Americans (or Puerto Rican) you can get your marriage license here in he states versus getting it in PR. So you have that option too. I'm sure you will make the best decision. Good luck!

Thank you all so much for your replies! We were planning on meeting with the lady at El Catedral who handles this, but I'm happy to hear there are others in our same situation who have been able to marry there!
Thanks again!

You can contact Santana Ministries. Minister Aran Santana; its amazing at his job. He is absolutely the best you can have. I have done plenty wedding with him and he just out of the world. And like David says Catholic wedding must be in the church, and (i believe you must be baptized catholic and do the communion as well) ; but I am not sure. I am non-denominational Christian as well. So it is kind of cook to get married where you please. Email me i will give you his information at jossiscakes@live.com
