Hi,
I know that my wedding is not for awhile but I was wondering were is a good place to have the reception? I will still be a university student when I get married, so it would have to be within a budget. I want to book my reception hall this summer, that is why I am asking.

Thank you

Melissa

The Caruso Club is a very nice place to have a reception. When I was looking for a reception hall I had looked at a couple and the Caruso Club was going to save me 1500$ just for the main course (I had a sit down dinner with mutliple course) They also are the only place i believe in Sudbury where you pay the week after your wedding. John (the manager) is also very helpful and so it the staff.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks it does help. I was wondering in total what was the cost for everything if you dont mind me asking. I ask because my fiance and I are thinking about the Great Hall at Laurentian because we are engineering students there or the caruso club or the radisson. For the caruso club did you use the upper hall or lower hall?

Thanks

Melissa

I agree with the Caruso Club, but it is huge! I'm guessing you have a smaller wedding?? You could try Brystons, which is a premium priced hall, but they have a downstairs hall for smaller venues. And, it's located on a beautiful park setting. Likewise, the greek hall, the Hellenic centre, is smallish, clean and again on a great setting. If you wanted more a do it yourself, you could even look into Fielding Park in Lively. Small, clean, but very nice setting. A lot of this depends on your budget and tastes...There are other more generic halls like the holiday inn, etc...Rob http://westmountphotography.com/

I had the Upper Hall we had just over 200 guests. The cost in total was around 12000$,now this encluded a big antipasto (buffet style during cocktail hour), a pasta course, the meal (veal mersala, potatoe and veggie), dessert. Also there was a late snack table around 11pm. We also had our own bar, where it was a Toonie Bar, so all the drinks were 2$. WE did that because my husband wanted an open bar but I didnt want to pay for all the alcohol, plus there would be less waste. I got many reviews on the toonie bar everyone loved it. We also made money off the bar which we didnt intend on doing we just wanted people to be more aware of the amount of drinks they had.

There is also the Science ll building at Laurentian U. that can hold weddings (depending on numbers). Only problem if it is a problem, it is upstairs and guests would have to take an elevator.
I'm a local D.J and we played there several times as well as the Great Hall.
There are many halls in town, depending on numbers and budgets. Local Legions have halls and are cheaper than most halls. Br. 76 in Minnow Lake has a beautiful area by the lake that you can even have the ceremony outside. It holds about 120-150 people.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Yes, we are going with the new united steel workers hall.

Thanks everyone.

I have another question.
We have a very small budget for a large wedding. Does anyone have any diy ideas for all parts of a wedding?

Please let me know :)

Thanks again everyone

I am planning my wedding for July 2015 and some of the planning is going to be going on via long distance as my fiance and I currently live in Victoria, BC, but are planning to move to Sudbury late fall or early spring of this year. I am wondering if there is anyone who knows much about rough pricing for holding a reception up at Science North. On a recent visit we took a tour of Science North and I saw where they hold the receptions and I would love to be able to hold it there. I have tried contacting them, but havent heard anything back yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

I don't know much about pricing for science north, but I was just wondering if you contacted science north or the catering company which would be curious thyme bistro. Do not quote me on this but I think you might have to go through curious thyme bistro. Good luck with your planning! If you require anymore vendors I have a few that I highly recommend from my wedding. For flowers Urban Floral Design and for DJ Absolute weddings (I believe he is also a wedding planner and officiant) and for a hall we went with the Caruso club and they have wonderful food and great prices; they have 2 halls one that holds up to 120-150 and the other I believe could hold up to 500, we had 200ish ppl and it still looked full.

Yes, I sent an email to the lady that was on their website to contact on Monday and I am still waiting to hear back. I was just curious if maybe someone on here may have looked into pricing there already. I will try contacting the restaurant... That will be my next option to try. Thank you! It will be interesting trying to work full time and plan a wedding mostly through long distance lol :)
