Hi,

We are doing a destination wedding and now I am "required" (by my parents) to do a calgary reception. We are looking for something in June, Less than $2500 including food, linens and so forth. I've looked online and I am not finding much options but I know there has to be more options out there!

So Ladies, what can you recommend for me??

We had our ceremony and main reception in Houston, where I'm from and then held
A casual meet/greet in Calgary for his side that couldn't make it. Don't recall how much was paid but we had a no-frills hoedown at Fort Calgary. Hope that helps!

Have you checked into the student bar at SAIT? My dental heigenist is doing hers there. They transform it very effectively to make it look really wedding appropriate. The food is made by culinary students and the drinks are very reasonably priced. You may want to do some appes instead of a meal. Give them a call. Good Luck. (There is also another venue at SAIT that people use, but I'm not sure what it is called).

Also the Devonian Gardens have reopened in TD square but I have no idea about pricing there.

We bought our flowers at Costco and a friend arranged them. If you want to use flowers that would be a good choice for you. Our vases came from the dollar store.

How many people are you expecting? What size of home do your parents have? You could just do a drop in style, open house. Have finger foods available and run it from like 1-5 on a Saturday? If not, look into renting community halls. Some of them are pretty reasonable. You should be able to Find some for $500 or so. Use caters like rocky mountain BBQ or something similar. Price point is REALLY reasonable and food is great! Different from the "norm" too. Otherwise, DIY as much as you can!

Good luck!

I have not looked at fort calgary or sait, I will do that tonight. Im hoping to get a place that has centre pieces for use and linens so I dont have to pay for that.

We are expecting up to 100 people. My parents have a smaller home than us. We have the largest house out of the family and there is no way we can host more than 40 people comfortably.

I have looked at varsity community hall, which is nice, decent prices and they have a catering team in there. But I wanted some more ideas of reception venues.

I am going to also check out the rocky mountain bbq tonight.

Thanks for the advice.

What area of the city are you in?? I could offer a few halls in the south that are pretty decent. Most of those halls do not have caters but finding an external one shouldn't be too busy. With rocky mountain you will need to email then to request a quote, they are quick at replying :)

Ok well most of the places I have actually seen are deep south, so no good for you. However, this website is pretty good for giving community center rental info for all quadrants of the city. You might wish to actually visit the places though and not judge based on pictures posted alone. Other places to check out would be cultural centers (ie polish or Croatian are both supposed to be nice) or areas slight outside of the city. Balzac has a cute looking barn hall that might work and redwood meadows has a great facility too. Hopefully this is helpful :)

I guess I should let you guys know, we picked Country Hills Golf Club. They had a $500 rental fee, including tables, chairs and linens, No food&bev minimum and they have a bar and onsite restaurant that caters.
